Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio “Ambo” David was formally sworn in as the 10th Filipino cardinal of the Catholic Church.
Pope Francis led the Vatican ceremony during the Ordinary Public Consistory to officially appoint the new cardinals.
The event was attended by current Filipino cardinals, including Manila Archbishop Jose Advincula and Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle.
David received a cardinal ring, a red biretta, and a document tube symbolizing his new status and assignment to a titular church in Rome.
In his homily, Pope Francis reminded the 21 new cardinals to embrace their mission as “builders of communion and unity” in the footsteps of Jesus.
The newly appointed cardinals represent various nations, including Argentina, Brazil, Italy, and the Philippines.
David is currently the president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.
