TEHRAN, Iran – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday reiterated that Tehran has no plans to negotiate with the United States, emphasizing that Iran will continue its military resistance despite White House claims of ongoing talks.
“Currently, our policy is to continue resisting,” Araghchi said on state television. “We do not intend to negotiate. So far, no negotiations have taken place, and our position remains fully principled.” He added that discussing negotiations at this stage would amount to “an admission of defeat.”
The remarks come as the White House issued a stark warning to Iran, threatening to “unleash hell” if the country refused to pursue a peace deal with the U.S. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt described U.S.-Iran discussions as “ongoing” and “productive,” noting that Islamabad had relayed an American 15-point proposal to Tehran aimed at ending the conflict that erupted on February 28 following U.S.-Israeli strikes.
Araghchi acknowledged the proposal, saying the ideas had been reviewed by senior Iranian officials but stressed that “this is neither called dialogue nor negotiation.”
He added that messages had been exchanged through “friendly countries or certain individuals,” but any formal position would be decided internally.
The Iranian foreign minister further asserted that Tehran had independently created its own security guarantees amid the conflict, underscoring the nation’s ability to defend itself.
“In this war, we showed the world that no one can provoke the Islamic Republic. We created a security shield for ourselves, making it clear that interfering with our interests carries serious consequences,” Araghchi said.
Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated sharply since late February, when U.S.-Israeli military actions targeted Iranian positions, triggering widespread regional unrest.
Efforts at mediation, including a U.S. 15-point plan conveyed via Pakistan, have so far failed to produce direct negotiations, highlighting Tehran’s steadfast resistance policy.
