Former OFW Dies in Motorcycle-Tricycle Crash

A former Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) was killed in a collision between his motorcycle and a tricycle in Pangada, Sta. Catalina, Ilocos Sur, on January 7, 2025.

The victim, identified as a former OFW from Caboloan, Sta. Catalina, was riding a Yamaha Aerox 155 motorcycle when he collided with a tricycle driven by Rowel Rasonable Obrero, a 50-year-old resident of Pangada, Sta. Catalina, who was operating a Honda TMX tricycle.

According to Bombo Radyo Vigan and Police Captain Marlon Martinez from the Sta. Catalina Municipal Police Station, the tricycle was traveling east when the motorcycle attempted to overtake it, resulting in a fatal crash.

Martinez stated that the tricycle driver failed to signal his turn before the accident occurred.

Although the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, the impact of the crash was so severe that it caused a fatal head injury.

The motorcyclist was rushed to Ilocos Sur Provincial Hospital – Gabriela Silang, where he was initially stabilized but was declared dead upon arrival.

It was confirmed that neither driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

The family of the motorcyclist has decided to pursue legal action against the tricycle driver for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.
