The government has reimposed a ban on public entry into the six-kilometer permanent danger zone surrounding Kanlaon Volcano beginning June 24.

According to the Regional Task Force Kanlaon, the previously allowed window period from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM is temporarily suspended.

As a result, public access during this timeframe is prohibited, with authorities now guarding all entry points used by residents living near the volcano’s base.

Previously, access during the specified hours was permitted to allow locals to perform agricultural work and other essential tasks in their homes and farms.

However, the escalation in volcanic activity has prompted authorities to halt such allowances for public safety.

Phivolcs reported that within a 24-hour monitoring period, 67 volcanic earthquakes were recorded at Kanlaon.

On Sunday, June 22, the volcano emitted approximately 755 tons of sulfur dioxide daily and released thick plumes of steam rising nearly one kilometer high.

Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3, indicating increased likelihood of hazardous eruptions.
