Dueñas vice mayor dies after accidental gunshot wound

MANILA, Philippines — Dueñas, Iloilo Vice Mayor Aimee Paz Lamasan has died while undergoing treatment at a hospital on December 31, 2025, a close family member confirmed.

Lamasan had undergone a second surgery after sustaining a gunshot wound to the right side of her abdomen following an alleged accidental discharge of a firearm inside her residence at the Puerto Real de Iloilo Subdivision in La Paz, Iloilo City, on Tuesday morning, December 30.

Reports said the vice mayor was immediately rushed to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery in an effort to save her life.

However, she later succumbed to complications arising from the injury.

Lamasan’s sudden passing has triggered an outpouring of grief among her constituents and fellow local officials in the province.

Authorities said an investigation remains ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident inside her home.
