The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 2 has readied food and non-food items in anticipation of Typhoon Uwan’s impact on Northern Luzon.
According to DSWD Regional Director Lucia Alan, the agency has prepositioned essential relief goods across strategic locations in Cagayan Valley to ensure swift distribution during emergencies.
The stockpile includes ₱3.7 million worth of food packs and ₱2.3 million worth of non-food items, stored in warehouses and local government units (LGUs) throughout the region.
These supplies are intended for immediate deployment to families in low-lying and coastal areas that are vulnerable to flooding and storm surges.
Director Alan emphasized that the agency’s Mobile Command Center is also on standby to facilitate real-time reporting and coordination with the DSWD Central Office.
This mobile unit will serve as a communications hub for disaster response teams, enabling rapid assessment and intervention during the storm’s peak.
The relief operation is part of the agency’s proactive disaster preparedness strategy, especially as Typhoon Uwan is expected to bring heavy rains and strong winds to Region 2.
DSWD Region 2 also confirmed that additional standby funds are available for emergency procurement should the need arise.
Local government units have been advised to coordinate closely with DSWD field offices to ensure timely delivery of aid to affected residents.
The agency reiterated its commitment to maintaining 24/7 readiness and urged the public to heed official advisories and evacuation protocols.
