The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has called for additional volunteers to help prepare family food packs (FFPs) for families affected by the eruption of Mount Kanlaon.
According to the DSWD-National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau (NRLMB), volunteers are encouraged to proceed to the National Resource Operations Center (NROC) located at Chapel Road, Barangay 195, Pasay City.
Volunteers will assist in the packing of large volumes of FFPs that will be distributed to residents displaced by the recent volcanic eruption, including those newly evacuated as of April 8.
Mount Kanlaon experienced another explosive eruption on April 8, which lasted for nearly an hour, prompting further evacuations.
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian earlier stated that over 250,000 prepositioned FFPs are available in the agency’s warehouses in Western and Central Visayas.
Since Mount Kanlaon’s previous eruption in December 2024, the DSWD has been regularly sending large quantities of FFPs to evacuees staying in temporary shelters.
In addition to the stock in Western and Central Visayas, the DSWD has also stored 100,000 FFPs in its warehouses across the Negros Island Region.
Furthermore, an additional 2.5 million FFPs have been prepositioned in DSWD warehouses nationwide to respond to future needs.
