On their way home, the victim, heavily intoxicated, lay down in the middle of the road and was subsequently run over by a passing vehicle.

Ramos noted that the area was dimly lit, leading the driver to mistake the victim for a sack obstructing the road.

The victim was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Following the incident, the driver immediately reported the event to the police station.

The driver and the victim’s family have since come to an agreement for an amicable settlement.

Police continue to patrol Burgos, especially at night, but incidents like this remain difficult to prevent, according to PMaj. Ramos.
