DOH assigns emergency response teams in storm-hit areas

THE Department of Health (DOH) has sent Health Emergency Response Teams (HERTs) to evacuation centers in Albay, Camarines Sur, Matnog Port, and other places affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.

According to the agency, the teams provided medical assistance such as hygiene kits, medications, and consultations.

“Some evacuees were given hygiene kits, different types of medicines, and consultations after the initial assessment of them in some evacuation centers,” the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Facebook.

“DOH ensures that there will be a sufficient supply of disinfectants, chlorine granules, and aquatabs which are important to maintain personal hygiene and access of evacuees to clean water and sanitation,” it added.

The agency stated that some local Emergency Operations Centers and Patient Navigation Referral units are operational around the clock to monitor other areas in the regions that require more assistance.

Meanwhile, Health Secretary. According to Ted Herbosa, three DOH Philippine Emergency Medical Assistance Teams (PEMAT) are ready to deploy because they specialize in providing medical services throughout disasters such as typhoons and earthquakes.

DOH PEMAT is well-versed in providing medical services during disasters such as typhoons and earthquakes. The group is also complete with water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities for outpatient care,” the DOH said.

“Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium (PEMAT Metro Manila), Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital (PEMAT Luzon), and Eastern Visayas Medical Center (PEMAT Visayas) comprise the PEMATs presented by the WHO (World Health Organization), which is ready and trained to respond to domestic and international deployments,” it added.
