DENNIS Trillo has donated the P100,000 cash prize he received for winning Best Actor at the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Gabi ng Parangal to Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs).

In a Facebook post, Trillo’s road manager, Jan Enriquez, shared that the actor and his wife, Jennylyn Mercado, decided to allocate the cash award to support PDLs.

Enriquez, who was entrusted with claiming the prize on Trillo’s behalf, was instructed by Mercado to donate it to the cause.

“I immediately handed it to JC Rubio, who has connections with the group of PDLs from which the Tree of Hope was inspired.” Enriquez wrote, referring to JC Rubio, the creative producer of “Green Bones” and an award-winning senior program manager.

Rubio, the concept creator of the “Tree of Hope,” confirmed that the donation would be used to fulfill the modest wishes of PDLs in a facility where the symbolic tree stands.

Additionally, Enriquez mentioned that Team Green Bones had also donated their cash prize from a recent appearance on one television game to the same group.

“Thank you for your kindness, Dennis! You truly embody our movie’s message,” Enriquez wrote, commending Trillo’s generosity.

Green Bones, which earned six awards during the MMFF Gabi ng Parangal, including Best Picture and Best Screenplay, tells the story of Domingo Zamora, a prisoner infamous for a heinous crime, and the prison guard determined to keep him behind bars.

The film is now showing in cinemas nationwide.
