While returning to Sta. Luciana, they failed to notice the tricycle ahead of them, resulting in their motorcycle crashing into its rear.

The force of the collision caused Valencia and De Guzman to be thrown from the motorcycle, leading to severe injuries. Valencia was declared dead on arrival at the hospital by his attending physician.

Tricycle driver Dela Cruz explained in a radio interview that he was on his way to pick up eggs for delivery when the motorcycle struck the rear of his tricycle.
