Cloudy weather, rain expected due to 3 weather systems — PAGASA

MANILA, Philippines — Several areas in the country are expected to experience overcast skies and rainfall on Saturday, December 7, as three weather systems continue to affect the region, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In extreme Northern Luzon, heavy rainfall is likely due to the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” which brings cold winds from the northeast. PAGASA weather expert Benison Estareja forecasted light rains and cooler temperatures in areas like Batanes.

“Batanes will experience light rain and cool temperatures, while other parts of Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, and nearby towns can expect cloudy weather with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms,” Estareja added.

Meanwhile, the shear line — where cold winds from the northeast meet warm winds from the east — is expected to bring bad weather, including possible flooding and landslides, to the eastern regions of Luzon.

Estareja highlighted that areas along the Sierra Madre, Aurora, Quezon, Banahaw, and the Bicol region will experience partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy skies with rain from the afternoon to evening.

For Metro Manila and nearby provinces, the weather will remain mostly cloudy, especially around midday and afternoon.

In Mindanao, the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres meet, will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, especially in Caraga and Davao regions on Saturday morning.

Estareja also noted that other areas of Mindanao, including Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, the southern portion of the Zamboanga Peninsula, and Soccsksargen, will likely experience rain starting early in the day.

The Visayas and Palawan will see partly cloudy skies with possible rain showers. Central Palawan, Southern Leyte, and Eastern Samar could experience rain as early as morning, while the rest of the Visayas, particularly Panay Island, will see isolated rain showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

PAGASA also advised that the waters off Northern Luzon will be moderate to rough with waves ranging from 2.1 to 3.4 meters, due to the ongoing northeast monsoon.

The rest of the country’s seaboards will have light to moderate sea conditions, though waves may reach 2.5 meters during thunderstorms.

Despite these conditions, PAGASA did not issue a gale warning for the day.
