Cebu Fire Rages Through 125 Homes, Leaving 270 Families Displaced

A fire broke out in Sitio Isla Alegre, Barangay Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City, around midnight on Sunday, October 27, 2024, destroying approximately 125 homes and partially damaging five others.

Cebu City Fire Office spokesperson SFO2 Wendell Villanueva reported an estimated P3 million in damages due to the fire.

The blaze displaced 270 families, affecting about 810 individuals who lost their homes in the incident.

The fire, which reached the third alarm level, was brought under control by 2:06 a.m. and declared fully extinguished by 3:25 a.m.; no injuries or fatalities were reported.

The fire is believed to have started in the home of Erlinda Suerte and her companion Virgilio Suerte, though the cause remains under investigation.

Fire authorities are continuing to investigate the origin and circumstances of the blaze.
