Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla is set to take his oath before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. this Tuesday, October 8, as the next Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The appointment was confirmed by his brother, Justice Secretary Jesus Remulla.
Secretary Remulla added that his brother’s leadership would help improve the country’s justice system.
It can be recalled that DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos resigned from his post to run for senator.
Gov. Remulla has withdrawn his certificate of candidacy for governor.
Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla has a long and prominent political career, primarily within his home province of Cavite.
Coming from a well-established political family, he first entered public service in the late 1990s.
He served as a Provincial Board Member of Cavite in 1995, marking the beginning of his political journey. Remulla then became the Vice Governor of Cavite from 2001 to 2010.
After serving as vice governor, he was elected Governor of Cavite in 2010, where he focused on infrastructure development, public service improvement, and boosting the local economy.
Remulla also ran for a congressional seat, winning as the representative of Cavite’s 7th district in 2019. He later returned to the governorship in 2022.
Throughout his career, Jonvic Remulla has been known for his pragmatic leadership and active involvement in provincial and national politics.
His new appointment as Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) marks a significant move into a key national role, tasked with overseeing local governance and internal affairs across the country.
