Bus Driver in SCTEX Tragedy Tests Negative for Drugs, Alcohol

SCTEX bus crash driver from Solid North Bus Transit Inc., who was involved in the deadly multi-vehicle collision that claimed 12 lives, tested negative for both drugs and alcohol.

The tragic accident occurred on the Subic–Clark–Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), resulting in the deaths of at least 12 individuals, including four children, and injuries to around 37 others.

According to the Tarlac City Police Station, the bus driver underwent an alcohol breathalyzer test and a mandatory drug test following the incident.

These procedures were conducted in compliance with the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013, which requires drivers involved in accidents to undergo chemical testing.

Tarlac City Police Chief, Police Lieutenant Colonel Romel Santos, confirmed in a statement that the driver tested negative for both substances.

In response to the fatal crash, all operations of Pangasinan Solid North Transit Inc. have been suspended for 30 days as part of the investigation and safety protocols.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has since announced that the government will now require all public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers nationwide to undergo mandatory drug testing due to the increasing number of road accidents.
