BUREAU of of Fire Protection (BFP) announced that it will remain on red alert or full alert status until January 2, 2025.

“Code Red means the entire BFP force is on red alert status. No one is on leave, and everyone is on standby for any emergency response needed,” said BFP Public Information Service Chief Annalee Atienza during an interview on one media source.

Atienza reported that the BFP recorded 800 fire incidents this December, a decrease compared to the 1,204 incidents in December 2023. Most of these occurred in residential areas.

“While the numbers are lower, incidents are still happening. That’s why we continue to urge communities to remain vigilant, especially with only a few days left before the New Year celebration,” she added.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has advised the public to refrain from using fireworks, especially in residential areas, to ensure safety during New Year celebrations.

“This is the standing order of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG),” said BFP Public Information Service Chief Annalee Atienza. “Local government units are encouraged to pass ordinances that completely ban the use of firecrackers in residential areas.”

Atienza suggested that people attend designated fireworks display areas instead, where festivities, countdowns, and safety measures are in place.

She also encouraged the use of safer alternatives, such as noise-makers like torotot (party horns) and videokes, to celebrate.

“If the BFP’s assistance is needed, please call 911 before recording a vlog or taking videos,” she added, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing emergencies.
