President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared April 22, 2025 as a Day of National Mourning in honor of the late National Artist for Film and Broadcast Media, Nora Cabaltera Villamayor, known to millions as Nora Aunor.
The declaration was made official through Proclamation No. 1390 (s. 2022), recognizing Aunor’s exceptional contributions to Philippine cinema and cultural heritage.
Nora Aunor’s passing is described as a profound loss not only to her loved ones but also to the entire nation and the country’s artistic community.
As part of the proclamation, all government offices, buildings nationwide, and Philippine embassies and consulates abroad are directed to fly the national flag at half-mast.
President Marcos signed the proclamation on April 21, 2025.
Earlier this morning, a necrological tribute was held for the late actress, led by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
She will be laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, the final resting place for national heroes and dignitaries.
