Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. confirmed that several retired military officials have called on the AFP to withdraw its support from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. amid protests over alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
According to Brawner, some retired officers attempted to persuade active AFP personnel to act against the administration through a coup d’état, military junta, or withdrawal of support.
However, Brawner clarified that no such actions materialized during the protest activities held on September 21.
He assured the public that AFP personnel remained loyal and professional, and none responded to the calls from the retired officials.
Brawner also stated that the AFP had informed President Marcos of the situation, and the President expressed confidence in the military and its leadership.
In relation to this, the Department of National Defense (DND) emphasized that there is no threat or actual plan of a coup against the administration, contrary to circulating speculations.
