Filipino tennis sensation Alex Eala’s US Open Girls’ Singles campaign concluded in the third round following a hard-fought defeat to American rival Iva Jovic, with scores of 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.
The intense three-hour and three-minute encounter saw Eala mount a comeback, winning the second set to level the match, and even taking a 4-2 lead in the deciding set.
However, Jovic rallied decisively, breaking back and securing the final two games to seal her victory.
This marks the third consecutive time Jovic has bested Eala this year, further intensifying their burgeoning rivalry which also saw them clash at the French Open.
Despite the loss, Eala’s performance at this year’s tournament represents another strong Grand Slam showing for the young Filipina, adding to her impressive junior career which includes a historic title win at the 2022 US Open Girls’ Singles.
