Cassandra Ong Misses Senate Investigation Over Health Concerns

Cassandra Li Ong was absent from the ongoing Senate Subcommittee on Justice and Human Rights hearing regarding her escape from the Philippines with dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo.

An excuse letter from the House of Representatives, dated September 4, 2024, was sent, stating that Ong is currently hospitalized. The letter explained that Ong was not feeling well and was unable to attend the committee’s investigation.

Her blood pressure and sugar levels reportedly dropped, prompting the cancellation of her scheduled appearance in the House of Representatives for a separate inquiry.

Ong was immediately examined by the House medical team, who recommended hospitalization. Her recovery is expected to take two to three days before her condition stabilizes.

Ong is facing charges filed by the Department of Justice – National Prosecution Service for multiple legal violations following her return to the country.

According to DOJ Undersecretary Nicholas Ty, she could face additional charges for failure to respond to Congress’ summons and obstruction of justice.
