Trump slams Pope Leo as ‘weak’ on crime, ‘terrible’ on foreign policy

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. President Donald Trump launched a sharp criticism of Pope Leo late Sunday, accusing the pontiff of being “weak” on crime and “terrible” when it comes to foreign policy.

In a lengthy post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump expressed frustration over the pope’s recent remarks criticizing U.S. policies.

“Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime and terrible for Foreign Policy,” Trump wrote.

TENSION OVER FOREIGN POLICY AND IRAN CONFLICT
The criticism comes after Pope Leo spoke out against the ongoing conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran, which escalated on February 28.

The pope has been increasingly vocal, particularly condemning strong rhetoric from Washington.

He described Trump’s earlier threat to “destroy Iranian civilization” as “unacceptable,” signaling growing tension between the two leaders.

POPE RAISES CONCERNS ON MIGRANT TREATMENT
Beyond foreign policy, Pope Leo also called for “deep reflection” on how migrants are being treated in the United States under Trump’s administration, another point of disagreement that appears to have fueled the president’s remarks.

TRUMP DOUBLES DOWN ON CRITICISM
Trump did not hold back in his response, suggesting that the pope should focus on his own leadership.

“Leo should get his act together as Pope,” Trump added, later telling reporters he was not a “big fan” of the Catholic leader.

GROWING RIFT BETWEEN POLITICS AND THE VATICAN
Tensions between U.S. political leadership and the Vatican are not new, especially on issues like immigration, war, and humanitarian policy.

However, the latest exchange highlights a more direct and personal clash, as Pope Leo, known for measured statements, takes a firmer stance on global conflicts and ethical governance.

The situation underscores a widening divide between political authority and religious influence on key global issues.
