DUBAI — A major fire broke out at Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday after a drone attack hit fuel storage facilities, according to Kuwait’s Civil Aviation Authority. No casualties have been reported.
Abdullah Al Rajhi, spokesperson of the Civil Aviation Authority, said the drones allegedly launched by Iran and affiliated armed groups targeted fuel tanks operated by Kuwait Aviation Fuel Company (KAFCO), triggering a large blaze within the airport complex.
Emergency response teams were quickly dispatched to contain the fire, with initial assessments indicating that the damage was limited to property and infrastructure.
Authorities are continuing to evaluate the extent of the damage as tensions in the region remain high.
WHAT WOULD BE THE CAUSE
The incident comes amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, particularly involving Iran and its regional adversaries.
Drone and missile attacks targeting critical infrastructure, including airports and energy facilities, have become increasingly common in recent years, raising concerns over aviation safety and regional stability.
Kuwait, a key Gulf state, hosts strategic oil and transport assets, making it vulnerable during periods of heightened conflict.
