MANILA, Philippines — More than 100,000 passengers were recorded at seaports across the country just hours before New Year’s Day, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
In an advisory, the PCG said it monitored a total of 108,057 passengers nationwide between noon and 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Of this number, 54,221 were outbound travelers while 53,836 were inbound.
The PCG also reported heightened operational activity during the period, with frontline personnel inspecting 502 vessels and 794 motorbancas to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
“The PCG has placed all its districts, stations, and sub-stations under heightened alert from December 20, 2025, to January 4, 2026, in anticipation of the surge in passenger traffic during the Pasko 2025 holiday season,” the agency said.
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) intensified security and assistance measures nationwide to support the holiday travel rush. The PNP deployed 56,785 personnel along major roads, transport terminals, and other high-traffic areas.
Of the total deployment, 11,129 police officers were assigned to motorist assistance hubs to provide help and ensure the safety of travelers.
