FIRST Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos pushed back against a wave of misinformation on Wednesday, indirectly addressing accusations of illegal drug use made against her and President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
In posts uploaded past midnight on her Facebook and Instagram accounts, Araneta-Marcos shared photos from her meeting with a foreign producer, director, and actors currently filming a movie in the Philippines.
“Sometimes things happen for a reason,” she wrote, recounting how the filmmakers praised Filipinos for being “genuine and kind” and expressed their desire to bring more Hollywood projects to the country.
She said they later discussed the script and that she “bit her tongue,” wanting to quip:
“Welcome to entertainment – Pinoy style! Only in the Pinas will you find a plot full of holes and actors who can’t deliver and a climax that leaves entire communities underwater.”
She ended the post with: “Let’s not even talk about fake news.”
Minutes later, the First Lady posted another photo showing a fabricated quote card falsely attributed to her, an image that claimed she was responding directly to Senator Imee Marcos’ allegations. “Speaking of fake news… ‘welcome to entertainment, Pinoy style!’” she remarked.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro also denounced the bogus quote card in a morning news interview, saying, “Hindi po ganyan ang ugali ng ating First Lady.”
Senator Imee Marcos had claimed during an Iglesia ni Cristo rally on Monday that her brother’s alleged drug addiction worsened because the First Lady was supposedly also using illegal drugs.
She further alleged that she once begged then-President Rodrigo Duterte to intervene and “save” her brother.
Castro earlier dismissed the senator’s accusations as “a desperate move.”
In a Tuesday briefing, she said the First Couple is not considering legal action for now, noting that similar drug-use allegations had already been debunked as far back as 2021.
