QUEZON CITY — The United People’s Initiative (UPI), organizers of a protest at the People Power Monument in Quezon City on Sunday, have received an extension from the local government to continue their peaceful assembly on Monday, November 17.

The UPI is scheduled to hold activities from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. today, following approval from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD). Spokesperson PMaj. Jennifer Gannaban confirmed the extension, citing the group’s compliance with all required procedures.

“They reapplied with the QC LGU, and it was approved. Tomorrow, November 17, they will again hold activities from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.,” Gannaban said.

She clarified that this new permit is considered a separate application from the previous one. “This is a new application. Their initial permit was coordinated for three days, but after discussions, it was limited to just one day. Now, since they requested an extension, they needed to file a new permit, which the QC LGU approved,” Gannaban explained.

The new permit maintains the same rules and restrictions as the previous one, including bans on seditious statements and unauthorized marching outside the designated area to ensure public order.

The QCPD also reported that Sunday’s protest drew a peak crowd of around 4,000 participants by 7 p.m., and authorities expect higher attendance for Monday’s rally.
