Manila Archbishop Cardinal Jose Advincula has appealed to the military and police to remain faithful to their sworn duty and to the nation, as he warned that the country is facing a deep moral and spiritual crisis brought about by corruption and loss of trust in institutions.

Advincula stressed that the people must uphold the “rule of law” and firmly reject any calls for actions outside the Constitution.

He emphasized that loyalty should be directed to the nation and democratic principles, not to personalities or personal interests.

“In moments of large gatherings and public discourse, we must not allow emotions to prevail over reason,” Advincula said.

“Our loyalty must be focused on our country and democratic principles, not on individuals, and certainly not on personal interests,” he added.

The Cardinal also urged the public to be wise, discerning, and cautious in accepting and sharing information.

He warned that the “virus of lies and disinformation”—which some have called a “pandemic of lies”—can weaken society’s ability to recognize truth and goodness.

“As Christians, it is our duty to verify the information we receive and avoid spreading anything unproven. Let truth be our standard,” he stressed.

In closing, Advincula called on everyone to examine their conscience, change their way of life, and live according to God’s will.

“This is a call for personal and institutional conversion, so that integrity, accountability, truth, and justice may prevail,” he said.
