Sara Duterte: My SALN is not difficult to obtain

MANILA — Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday said there should be no difficulty in obtaining her Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN), amid calls from groups for the Office of the Ombudsman to make it public.

When asked about the request filed by the Akbayan party-list for a copy of her SALN, Duterte said she expects the Ombudsman to release it soon.

“The request has already been filed, and I expect the Ombudsman to grant it. This is all part of the narrative, the narrative of the yellows, the pinks, Akbayan, Makabayan, and even the Marcos administration, of going after me,” Duterte said.

“In fact, in the impeachment complaint, one of the Articles of Impeachment is about my SALN. So it’s not difficult for them to get my SALN,” she added.

Last week, Akbayan urged the Ombudsman to release the SALNs of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., former Ombudsman Samuel Martires, and other officials from constitutional commissions, as well as those of Duterte.

Fr. Robert Reyes, convener of the Clergy for Good Governance, said their request was intended to promote transparency and uncover any possible unexplained wealth among top government officials.

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla recently issued new guidelines that restored greater public access to SALNs, overturning a 2020 memorandum by former Ombudsman Martires that had restricted disclosure.

Under Martires’ circular, anyone seeking access to a public official’s SALN was required to present the official’s written and notarized consent, along with other conditions.
