Nearly 3,000 residents in Cagayan Valley have been evacuated as authorities enforced forced evacuations due to the threat of Super Typhoon Uwan.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported that 2,652 individuals from 966 families across five provinces and 66 barangays in Region 2 have already been relocated.
DSWD Regional Director Lucia Alan said most of the evacuees came from Isabela, followed by Quirino, Cagayan, and Nueva Vizcaya.
Meanwhile, 81 passengers were stranded in Basco, Batanes after flights were canceled due to the typhoon.
Alan noted that the number of evacuees is expected to rise, particularly in high-risk areas where forced evacuations were implemented.
Rescue and response teams in each province, supported by local government units, police, and volunteer groups, remain on standby to ensure safety and smooth operations in evacuation centers.
The DSWD assured that sufficient food and non-food supplies are available to provide augmentation support to local governments as needed.
