More than 2,000 residents from coastal areas of Aurora Province were evacuated as a pre-emptive measure against the storm surge brought by Super Typhoon Uwan.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo Cauayan, Engr. Amado Egargue of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Aurora said the evacuation was carried out before the full force of strong winds and heavy rains could be felt.

Egargue explained that the action was necessary due to high waves compounded by high tide, which posed serious risks to residents in coastal communities.

Initial records showed that 776 families, or 2,256 individuals, were relocated to various evacuation centers across the province.

Egargue expressed gratitude to residents for cooperating, noting that no one resisted the evacuation order, especially those living in coastal, low-lying, and landslide-prone areas in seven municipalities of Aurora.

The PDRRMO assured that supplies remain sufficient, with Family Food Packs and other relief goods provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for evacuees.
