Typhoon Uwan Grounds Over 2,000 Passengers in Bicol Ports

More than 2,000 passengers were stranded across multiple ports in the Bicol Region after the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) suspended sea travel due to the intensifying threat of Typhoon Uwan.

According to PCG Bicol, as of Saturday morning, November 8, 2025, 1,757 passengers were stranded in the ports of Albay, Masbate, and Sorsogon, with additional delays reported in nearby terminals.

The suspension also affected 654 rolling cargoes, seven vessels, and two motorbancas, while 19 vessels were forced to take shelter due to rough sea conditions.

PAGASA raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 in Catanduanes and parts of Luzon and Visayas, while Signal No. 1 was hoisted in Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, and surrounding islands.

The weather bureau warned of storm surges up to three meters in coastal provinces including Albay, Aurora, Cagayan, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Isabela, La Union, Pangasinan, Quezon, and Sorsogon.

Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-Wong) was last spotted 985 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, moving west-northwest at 25 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 130 kph and gusts up to 160 kph.

The PCG placed all personnel on heightened alert status to respond to emergencies and assist stranded passengers with temporary shelter and relief coordination.

Authorities advised travelers to monitor official advisories and avoid unnecessary travel until weather conditions improve.
