The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has confirmed that Tropical Storm Fung-Wong has intensified into a severe tropical storm as of Friday, November 7, 2025.
As of 4:00 AM, the storm was located 1,500 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao or 1,470 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Once inside PAR, the storm will be locally named “Uwan,” and is expected to enter by midnight Friday or early Saturday morning.
Fung-Wong currently packs maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 115 kilometers per hour, and a central pressure of 990 hPa.
It is moving northwestward at 10 kilometers per hour, with strong to storm-force winds extending outward up to 720 kilometers from its center.
PAGASA forecasts widespread heavy rainfall beginning Sunday, November 9, affecting parts of Luzon and Visayas.
There is an increasing chance of landfall on Monday, November 10, over Northern or Central Luzon, possibly at or near its peak intensity.
The storm is expected to rapidly intensify into a typhoon within 24 hours and may reach super typhoon status by Saturday evening or early Sunday.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals may be raised over eastern portions of Luzon and Samar provinces as early as Friday afternoon or Saturday morning.
The highest possible alert level under the current forecast is Signal No. 5, indicating potentially life-threatening conditions.
PAGASA also warned of high storm surge risks and coastal flooding, especially along Northern Luzon and the east coast of Central Luzon.
Storm surge warnings may be issued as early as Saturday, and residents are urged to monitor official updates and prepare accordingly.
Disaster risk reduction offices have been advised to activate contingency plans and coordinate with local government units for preemptive measures.
