Dick Cheney, Former U.S. Vice President, Dies at 84

Former US Vice President Dick Cheney has passed away at the age of 84 due to complications from pneumonia, cardiac, and vascular disease.

His death was confirmed by his wife Lynne Cheney and daughters Liz and Mary, who cited the health conditions that led to his passing.

Cheney served as the 46th Vice President of the United States under Republican President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009.

He was known for his strong criticism of President Donald Trump, whom he labeled a coward and a significant threat to the nation.

In the 2024 presidential election, Cheney cast his vote for Liberal Democrat Kamala Harris, a fellow member of the Vice Presidents Club.

Before his vice presidency, Cheney held key roles including Representative of Wyoming, White House Chief of Staff, and Secretary of Defense.

He battled cardiovascular disease for years and underwent a heart transplant in 2012.

Born Richard Bruce Cheney on January 30, 1941, in Lincoln, Nebraska, he married his high school sweetheart Lynne Vincent in 1964.

Cheney initially attended Yale University on a scholarship but was expelled due to academic struggles.

He later earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science from the University of Wyoming.

Early in his career, he worked for a power lines company and was twice arrested for driving under the influence.
