1 reported dead, nearly 60,000 affected by Typhoon Tino — NDRRMC

AT least one person was reported dead while nearly 60,000 individuals, or 17,124 families, were affected by the impact of Typhoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi), according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Tuesday.

In its 6 a.m. situational report, the NDRRMC said it is still validating the reported death of one unidentified woman.

Of the affected population, 9,170 families (32,286 individuals) are currently staying in 362 evacuation centers, while 3,300 families (10,641 individuals) are being assisted outside evacuation facilities.

Meanwhile, a total of 75,591 individuals from MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga were evacuated preemptively.

The NDRRMC also reported that 1,403 passengers, 554 rolling cargoes, and 46 vessels were stranded across 108 affected seaports due to the storm.

Additionally, classes were suspended in 459 cities and municipalities, while government work was called off in 311 areas.

As of 8 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 over nine areas as Typhoon Tino continued to move closer to Panay Island.

PAGASA added that the typhoon is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by November 6.
