Marcos pledges support for peace in Korean Peninsula

GYEONGJU, South Korea — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has pledged to help promote lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula as the Philippines chairs the ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.

According to Korean media, Marcos met with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on Friday to discuss issues of mutual interest, including bilateral relations, consular cooperation, and matters concerning the Korean Peninsula.

The two leaders highlighted the positive impact of the Korea-Philippines Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which will celebrate its first anniversary later this year, noting that it has significantly strengthened economic cooperation between the two countries.

President Lee also thanked Marcos for supporting the establishment of the Korean Help Desk within the Philippine National Police, which aims to address incidents and accidents involving Korean nationals.

The leaders further agreed to enhance regional collaboration to combat transnational crimes.

Marcos is in South Korea to attend the 2025 APEC Summit and has also met with business leaders during his visit.
