OMBUDSMAN Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla has fully recovered from cancer and remains in good health, his office clarified Monday amid reports that allegedly took his earlier remarks about his health out of context.

“To clarify statements that were released out of context: The Ombudsman is in good health and continues to perform his duties with energy and dedication,” the Office of the Ombudsman said in a statement.

The agency confirmed that Remulla has been cancer-free for a year and a half and continues to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“The Ombudsman has been free from cancer for one and a half years. He exercises every morning before reporting to the office to maintain a healthy lifestyle,” the office added.

Remulla earlier revealed in an interview with journalist Luchi Cruz-Valdes that he was diagnosed with leukemia following a quintuple bypass heart surgery in June 2023.

The surgery was also the reason for his two-week wellness leave during his tenure as Justice Secretary.

According to the Ombudsman’s office, Remulla has since fully recovered after undergoing two cycles of chemotherapy and body radiation, followed by a bone marrow transplant donated by his child.

The statement also clarified that Remulla’s previous comments about his illness were made in the past tense, before he assumed office as Ombudsman.

“We assure the public that the Ombudsman is determined to hold accountable those responsible in the flood control controversy, and he is in excellent condition to do so,” the office said.

“His second chance at life has given him renewed determination and courage, with nothing left to fear or delay,” it added.
