The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has warned that any attempt to change the Senate leadership or divert attention from the ongoing investigation into flood control project anomalies would only heighten public suspicion of a cover-up.

The CBCP issued the statement amid reports of a possible coup attempt against Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.

Just last month, Sotto replaced Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero through a minority-led ouster, sparking concerns over political maneuvering.

The bishops reiterated their call for the government to uphold transparency and accountability in the flood control scandal investigations to restore public trust in democratic institutions.

Recent congressional hearings have revealed allegations of kickbacks, budget anomalies, and congressional insertions involving lawmakers and officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

According to the CBCP, the only way to clear the names of those implicated and regain public confidence is through a clear, fair, and honest investigation.
