Piggatan Bridge Collapses in Alcala, Cagayan; Heavy Trucks Blamed

The Piggatan Bridge in Alcala, Cagayan collapsed on Monday afternoon, October 6, 2025, causing major disruptions in the area.

Initial reports from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Alcala confirmed that the bridge gave way while several ten-wheeler trucks were crossing.

Local government personnel and emergency agencies immediately responded to the scene to conduct investigations and verify if there were any injuries or fatalities.

The affected portion of the Piggatan Bridge has been closed to traffic as authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage.

Officials are also determining the cause of the collapse, including possible structural issues or excessive cargo weight from the vehicles involved.

Motorists are advised to take alternate routes via Jct. Gattaran – Cumao – Capissayan – Sta. Margarita Bolos Point Road toward Baybayog – Baggao – Sta. Margarita Road and vice versa.
