10 Dead as Typhoon and Habagat Ravage Central Visayas and Luzon

Ten people have died due to flooding and landslides brought by the onslaught of Tropical Storm Enteng, accompanied by the southwest monsoon (Habagat).

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), two fatalities were reported in Central Visayas, with 10 others injured. The storm affected 14 families or a total of 63 individuals across three barangays.

In Antipolo City, Rizal, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) reported six deaths caused by landslides and drowning.

CDRRMC Chief Relly Bernardo stated that two houses were buried by a landslide in Sitio Inapao, Brgy. San Jose, resulting in the deaths of a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old. In another landslide, a 27-year-old pregnant woman, a neighbor of the two teenagers, also lost her life.

In Brgy. San Luis, Antipolo City, a 44-year-old woman and a 4-year-old child drowned due to severe flooding.

Meanwhile, in Naga City, Camarines Sur, two individuals, including an infant girl, drowned when a flash flood struck the area due to heavy rainfall.

More than 300 families or 210,000 individuals were evacuated to safety as chest-deep and waist-high floods affected the region.

Port operations in CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) and Bicol Regions were temporarily suspended due to the severe weather, leaving 739 passengers, 282 rolling cargoes, 22 vessels, and four motorized boats stranded.

The NDRRMC has also placed its regional offices on alert, instructing them to monitor Typhoon Enteng and prepare for rescue operations in vulnerable communities, while cautioning residents about potential flash floods and landslides.
