13 Dead as 6.9-Magnitude Earthquake Devastates Cebu; Buildings Collapse, Roads Crack

A powerful 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck Cebu province at 9:59 PM on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, causing widespread panic among thousands of residents.

The Archdiocesan Shrine of Santa Rosa de Lima in Daanbantayan suffered partial structural collapse due to the tremor.

In Bogo City, the epicenter of the quake, a popular fast food chain sustained severe damage and was declared unsafe for entry.

Motorists also reported large cracks along major roads in the affected areas.

At Cebu City Medical Center, patients and medical staff evacuated the building as a precautionary measure.

Three individuals were confirmed injured during the incident.

Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival urged the public to remain calm amid expected aftershocks.

As of this writing, no official fatalities have been reported within Cebu City itself.

Several schools in Cebu City, Mandaue, and nearby areas suspended classes on October 1.

In an exclusive interview with Bombo Radyo Cebu, Office of the Civil Defense Region 7 Director Joel Erestain said Northern Cebu was the most affected, noting the quake’s magnitude was upgraded from 6.5 to 6.9.

At around 2:00 AM on October 1, Bogo City’s local government confirmed the deaths of nine elderly individuals and four children.

Additionally, four fatalities were reported in San Remegio, according to the Cebu Capitol Public Information Office.

Search and rescue operations continue across the province as authorities race to assist affected communities.
