Philippine Army Mobilizes Nationwide Response to STS “Opong” Onslaught

The Philippine Army has intensified its nationwide humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR) operations following the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm (STS) “Opong” on September 26, 2025.

Army HADR teams swiftly launched rescue and clearing missions in the hardest-hit areas of Eastern Visayas, Bicol Region, and Southern Luzon.

Soldiers worked alongside local government disaster responders to support families displaced by the storm’s impact.

In the Bicol Region, the 9th Infantry Division deployed 56 squads and 40 military trucks in coordination with the Office of the Civil Defense Region V (OCD5).

Army personnel assisted in the safe evacuation of 10,961 families, totaling 38,521 individuals, across Masbate, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, and Camarines Norte.

Troops from the 63rd Infantry “Innovator” Battalion of the 8th Infantry Division take part in a coordinated search and rescue operation that led to the successful recovery of missing residents from Guiuan, Eastern Samar amid the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm “Opong.”⁩

Additionally, 4,946 soldiers, Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAA) members, and reservists are on standby for rapid deployment in Metro Manila, Luzon, and the Visayas.

The Philippine Army reaffirmed its commitment to delivering swift, coordinated disaster response efforts nationwide.

It continues to work closely with national and local government responders to safeguard the welfare of affected communities.
