DPWH: 14 national roads closed due to Mirasol, Nando, Opong

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that 14 national road sections have been rendered impassable to all types of vehicles as of 6 a.m. Friday, citing the combined impact of the Southwest Monsoon and tropical cyclones Mirasol, Nando, and Opong.

According to the advisory, closures were reported across the Cordillera Administrative Region, Region I, Region II, and Region VIII, with incidents ranging from flooding, landslides, road cuts, damaged bridge approaches, and scoured foundations.

Among the affected roadways are:

  • Apayao-Ilocos Norte Road (Calanasan, Apayao) – flooding
  • Baguio-Itogon Road (Benguet) – soil collapse
  • Kennon Road – precautionary closure
  • Cosalan Road (Benguet) – soil collapse, fallen trees
  • Abatan-Mankayan-Cervantes Road (Benguet) – landslides, slope damage
  • Pancian-Adams Road (Ilocos Norte) – major slides
  • Manila North Road (Ilocos Sur) – scoured bridge approach
  • Urdaneta-Dagupan-Lingayen Road (Dagupan City) – flooding
  • Pangasinan-Nueva Vizcaya Road – soil erosion, rockfall
  • San Fernando–Bagulin Road (La Union) – scoured foundation, road cut
  • Basco Contracosta Road (Batanes) – road cut
  • Cagayan-Apayao Road (Cagayan) – scoured approaches
  • Cabagan-Santa Maria Overflow Bridge (Isabela) – flooding
  • Wright-Taft-Borongan Road (Eastern Samar) – rockfall

Meanwhile, five other roads remain open but with restrictions:

  • Apayao-Ilocos Norte Road (Tanglagan detour) – light vehicles only due to flooding
  • Santiago-Banayoyo-Lidlida-Quirino Road (Ilocos Sur) – light vehicles only due to road cut
  • Urdaneta-Dagupan-Lingayen Road (Dagupan City) – heavy vehicles only due to flooding
  • Pililla-Jala-Jala Road (Rizal) – light vehicles only due to bridge damage
  • Calamba-Sta. Cruz-Famy Road (Laguna) – heavy vehicles only due to flooding

The DPWH said its Quick Response Teams, consisting of 3,194 personnel with 631 equipment, have been prepositioned, while 384 personnel with 75 equipment are already deployed for immediate clearing operations.
