The Australian government has reportedly rejected the request to host former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte for his interim release.

Vice President Sara Duterte previously mentioned during a media interview in Melbourne that Australia was among the countries her father was considering as a host for his temporary liberty.

However, the Vice President later clarified that they had not formally applied for interim release in Australia on behalf of her father.

She confirmed that the Australian government had declined any request to accept Duterte for temporary release and had no plans of serving as a host country.

According to the Vice President, Duterte’s legal defense team never coordinated or engaged in talks with Australian officials.

She added that Australia was not among the two countries named in the urgent request for interim release submitted before the International Criminal Court.

The family reportedly received a letter from the Australian government expressing its decision not to accommodate the former president.

VP Sara Duterte recently visited Australia to meet with the Filipino community there.

She also reportedly sought a meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong on June 23, but the meeting did not push through due to scheduling conflicts.
