The Australian government has reportedly declined to host former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte for his interim release from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

This follows Vice President Sara Duterte’s earlier media statement during her Melbourne visit, where she said Australia was among the countries her father considered for temporary release.

According to the Vice President, Melbourne initially expressed willingness to help but did not provide further specifics.

Despite being aware of Duterte’s petition for interim release from the ICC detention center in The Hague, the Australian government reportedly refused the request and did not formally consider it.

Australia views the matter as one that should be evaluated by the ICC under the Rome Statute, of which Australia is a member state.

The petition for Duterte’s provisional release, filed on June 12, mentioned that an unnamed country had expressed readiness to host him and enforce the conditions of his release, but the name of the country was redacted in the document.
