TEHRAN, IRAN Iran executed three men on Wednesday after convicting them of collaborating with Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, and smuggling equipment allegedly used in an assassination, state-affiliated Mizan news agency reported.

The judiciary did not identify the target of the assassination but claimed the smuggled equipment had been critical to the operation.

The execution marks the latest in a series of state actions amid Iran’s decades-long covert conflict with Israel.

Authorities have frequently accused individuals of aiding Mossad in operations ranging from the targeted killings of Iranian nuclear scientists to acts of industrial and military sabotage designed to disrupt Tehran’s nuclear program.

In recent years, Iran has intensified crackdowns on alleged espionage networks, often linking arrests and executions to what it calls Israeli efforts to destabilize the country from within.
