Authorities have found no signs of foul play in the death of a 25-year-old law student who had been reported missing since June 8 and was later found lifeless in Cavite.

In a press briefing, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed that initial evidence suggests the case may be a suicide.

Near the body of the victim, identified as Anthony Granada, investigators found a bottle of suspected liquid sodium hydroxide and a bottle of milk tea, which may have been used in the suicide.

Remulla stated there were no indications of gunshot wounds, signs of dragging, or any evidence of forced abduction on Granada’s body, which was discovered on an undeveloped property in Cavite.

Personal items including his cellphone, wallet, and cash remained intact, ruling out robbery as a motive.

Remulla added that based on the condition of the victim’s body—specifically chemical burns on his face and chest and a ruptured throat—the preliminary investigation points toward poisoning.

Investigators also ruled out hazing and confirmed that the student had traveled alone from Taguig to the location where he was found.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has coordinated with Granada’s family, who are now requesting time and privacy to grieve.
