The Bacolod City Government has started selling rice at P20 per kilo in various barangays across the city as of Monday.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo Bacolod, Brenda Burdeos, Project Development Officer IV of the City Cooperative and Livelihood Development Office (CCLDO), stated that rice deliveries from the National Food Authority (NFA) to the city government are ongoing, with 1,953 sacks already delivered.

Burdeos confirmed that the supply increased after an additional 491 sacks were delivered on Tuesday.

The NFA aims to provide daily deliveries, estimating a manageable output from its rice mill to avoid overwhelming production.

Around 400 sacks of rice are delivered each day.

On Monday, five barangays—Barangay 1, 2, 3, 6, and 9—received their rice allocations.

Tuesday’s distribution covered Barangay 12, Sum-ag, Singcang, Tangub, Handumanan, Cabug, and Mansilingan.

Each barangay was targeted to receive 70 sacks, but numbered barangays only consumed around 40 sacks, prompting adjustments in supply distribution.

Burdeos clarified that rice sales in numbered barangays are limited to one day to ensure other barangays also get their allocation.

She noted that in previous instances, buyers repeatedly returned, changing their attire to purchase more rice, depriving others of a chance to buy.

Rice sales are conducted at barangay halls instead of satellite markets to ensure food safety and prevent exposure to environmental risks.
