PCG spokesperson Commodore Jay Tarriela stated that the initiative aims to safeguard the livelihood of Filipino fishermen who rely on the area for their income.

The agency will continue sending coast guard vessels to ensure the safety and uninterrupted fishing operations of locals in the contested waters.

Tarriela noted that in previous years, numerous incidents of harassment against Filipino fishermen were reported, often without immediate assistance.

He highlighted that today, the Philippine Coast Guard is actively present to provide support and rescue operations whenever needed.
