The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has assured the public that former Congressman Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr., currently detained in their Muntinlupa facility, is under strict surveillance.

The agency emphasized its commitment to security, particularly given the gravity of the charges against Teves, which include murder.

NBI Director Retired Judge Jaime B. Santiago confirmed that the former congressman is being closely monitored while in their custody.

Personnel are on duty 24/7 to ensure his safety and prevent any untoward incidents.

Despite the strict security measures, Santiago assured that Teves’ rights as a detainee would be respected.

He instructed his team to safeguard the detainee and prevent any form of mistreatment within the facility.

Meanwhile, following a commitment order from the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 12 to transfer Teves to Manila City Jail, his legal team has strongly opposed the move.

Attorney Ferdinand Topacio argued that security concerns pose a risk to Teves’ life, justifying their objection to the transfer.

His legal team plans to file a motion for reconsideration to keep Teves in the NBI detention facility in Muntinlupa.

Teves faces multiple charges across different courts in the country, including illegal possession of explosives and firearms.

He is also accused of masterminding the murder of former Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.
