President Marcos Signs Philippine Agriculturists Act to Regulate Agriculture Profession

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed the Philippine Agriculturists Act, a law aimed at regulating the agriculture profession in the country.

Republic Act No. 12215 mandates the establishment of the Professional Regulatory Board of Agriculture, which will oversee the licensure, registration, and examination of agriculture practitioners.

The law also provides for the supervision, control, and regulation of the agriculture profession, ensuring high standards in the field.

It includes provisions for the development and upgrading of the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture curriculum to enhance academic training.

Additionally, the Act promotes Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to improve the competence of registered agriculturists.

The law recognizes the vital role of registered agriculturists in nation-building and economic development.

The Professional Regulatory Board of Agriculture will operate under the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and will consist of a chairperson and five members.

The President will appoint the board members from a list of nominees submitted by the Accredited Integrated Professional Organization (AIPO) for registered agriculturists.

The new board is expected to be constituted within six months from the law’s effectivity.

Applicants seeking to be registered as agriculturists must pass a written professional licensure examination, which will be conducted at least once a year.

Marcos signed the law on May 29, 2025, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to strengthening the agriculture sector.
