Over the past five days, widespread rains caused by the Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat, have signaled the start of the rainy season in southern Luzon and Visayas.

The state weather bureau urged the public to exercise caution against the impacts of heavy rains and Habagat-related weather disturbances.

PAGASA is now expecting a series of rain showers due to the Southwest Monsoon, affecting six provinces in Luzon.

Based on its heavy rainfall outlook, 50 to 100 mm of rain is forecasted in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan.

Meanwhile, PAGASA stated that the rainy season declaration could be officially confirmed within the week as the Habagat continues to affect Luzon and Western Visayas.
